Overexposed

With the entire world on its knees for Ukraine, following the horrible events that took place after Russia invaded, having a war overexposed by European media. Some displaced African students studying in Ukraine determined to continue their educations are finding it challenging to gain residence permits in European countries like Germany.

Unlike Ukrainian students who have secured residence permits to continue their education in Germany for years, their African counterparts are still battling for such acceptance. After years of working hard to see better education and a more fulfilling future, they find themselves trapped in organizations, and their dreams have crumbled amidst racism and inequality.

"Tears of War" focuses on African students who fled Ukraine to Germany, but remain unseen and unheard by the government due to a double standard among refugees. Then I followed African students in Berlin, creating frames with them out of overexposed black and white photos that demonstrate how the Ukraine war is overexposed everywhere, but the African students are unseen.

The situation seems to be repeating itself with Kodak color film in some way. Back in the 1940s till the 1990s when they started manufacturing color film cameras, the exposure was set only to fit and show white people clearly, showing that it will always be in the advantage of the whites over the blacks.
